Turkiye supplies Korkut air defense systems to Ukraine

Turkiye supplied a small number of Korkut air defense systems to Ukraine earlier this year, allowing Kyiv to test the Turkish-made systems against Russian attacks.

Axar.az reports, citing Middle East Eye, that the systems, produced by Turkish defense company Aselsan, are designed to counter aerial targets including drones and cruise missiles. Ukraine has deployed an undisclosed number of Korkut units on the battlefield.

A Ukrainian official told Middle East Eye that Korkut had been successful in countering Russian attacks and could be considered battle-proven. The official said Ukraine was interested in buying more systems if the price was right.

"Korkut has been pretty much successful in countering the Russian attacks. There were of course some problems but nothing that couldn’t be overcome through some small adjustments," a Ukrainian official told MEE.

Aselsan CEO Ahmet Akyol said Korkut systems were operational in nine countries and that the company would announce new export contracts in the coming days.

According to the report, in May Saudi Arabia and Qatar had signed contracts to purchase Korkut 100/25 air defense systems. Iraq was also interested in acquiring the system.
