A court in China has sentenced Liu Handong, the former deputy head of the party group in Jiangsu province's Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, to the death penalty for bribery.
Liu unlawfully accumulated assets worth 245 million yuan ($34 million), Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The sentence has been deferred for two years, during which Liu is also stripped of his political rights for life, and the illegally obtained assets will be confiscated by the state. If Liu does not commit further crimes during the two-year period, the death sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment.
