The head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg, Shahin Shikhlinksi, has been declared wanted by Russian authorities in connection with a case involving violence against a government official.
The development comes just a day after Shikhlinksi’s son, Mutvali Shikhlinksi, was arrested on the same charge, Caliber.Az reports via E1.Ru.
On July 1, both men were detained by FSB officers near the "Baku Plaza" shopping centre. While Mutvali was released later the same day, his father was taken in for questioning at the Investigative Committee of the Sverdlovsk Region as a witness and was also subsequently released.
Their detentions occurred in the context of a broader law enforcement operation in Yekaterinburg, during which two Azerbaijani nationals—identified as the Safarov brothers—were killed. Mutvali Shikhlinksi believes that the actions taken against him and his father may be connected to that case.
