Azerbaijan plans opening of Aghdam–Khankendi railway and Khankendi Railway–Bus Terminal Complex for next year

“Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC, which aims to make all regions of Azerbaijan more accessible for passengers and expand the geography of its services, is gradually restoring routes and stations that existed before the pandemic to ensure the sustainable development of passenger transportation services, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Arif Aghayev told journalists within the framework of the commissioning of the Kurdamir station for passenger use and the organization of a symbolic train in this regard, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, in this direction, in 2023, the Baku–Ganja–Baku route was extended to Aghstafa, and for the first time, high-speed train services to Gabala were launched. In 2024, new trains were put into operation, the number of services on the Baku–Aghstafa–Baku line was increased, and stops were provided at the Leki and Ujar stations.

Arif Aghayev also noted that passenger transportation was further expanded in 2025: at the beginning of the year, the Baku–Balakan–Baku route was restored, in June the Baku–Gazakh–Baku route, and in August the Baku–Aghdam–Baku route resumed. In addition, the Ganja–Gabala–Ganja line was launched for the first time. Next year, the opening of both the Aghdam–Khankendi railway and the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex is planned.

“As a result of these measures, in 2025 ADY achieved a record figure by transporting more than 10 million passengers, which once again demonstrates the importance we attach to improving service quality and customer satisfaction,” Arif Aghayev emphasized.
