Moldovan energy leader to join int'l discussions on gas and renewable energy in Azerbaijan

Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu is set to visit Azerbaijan to participate in significant energy discussions.

During his visit, Minister Junghietu will take part in two major events on April 4 in Baku: the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the Advisory Council on "Green" Energy, Caliber.Az reports, citing domestic media.

These events are expected to bring together energy ministers and senior officials from countries involved in the Southern Gas Corridor, as well as partners, top executives of major energy companies, and representatives of international financial institutions.

The discussions at these meetings will focus on ensuring stable and reliable energy supplies, addressing key challenges in the global energy sector, and fostering effective cooperation among the countries involved in energy initiatives. These high-level talks are also anticipated to address pressing issues concerning regional energy security and the development of renewable energy sources.

While in Baku, Minister Junghietu will also hold important bilateral discussions with key officials, including the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Kadri Simson, and Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov. The meetings are expected to explore the deepening of energy cooperation between Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Europe, with an emphasis on energy security in the region and renewable energy development.

The Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), which is central to these discussions, is a major energy infrastructure project designed to transport natural gas from the Caspian region to Europe.

The SGC consists of three primary pipeline systems: the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP), the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

Initially, the corridor has the capacity to transport 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, with the potential to increase capacity to 20 billion cubic meters, a key factor in securing Europe's energy future.
