UEFA raises yellow-card suspension threshold

UEFA has approved changes to its competition regulations, raising the yellow-card suspension threshold in its men's club competitions and allowing stadium clocks to display added time.

Axar.az reports, citing UEFA, that under the new rules, players and team officials in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League will be suspended after accumulating four yellow cards, instead of three, from the start of the league phase.

Subsequent suspensions will be triggered after every additional two yellow cards.

UEFA said the change restores the balance following the expansion of the Champions League and Europa League league phases from six to eight matches.

The governing body has also amended its rules on stadium clocks, allowing them to display additional time in each half as "45+x" and "90+y" rather than stopping at 45 and 90 minutes.

The amendments take effect immediately.
