US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order creating a presidential commission to develop plans for establishing a United States Space Academy.
Axar.az reports, citing the White House, that the proposed NASA-led federal academy would combine technical education with leadership development, discipline and public service, preparing graduates for careers supporting the US military, civilian agencies and the broader space sector.
The commission will be chaired by the NASA administrator, with the White House science and technology and economic policy advisers serving as vice chairs.
Within 120 days, the commission is required to submit recommendations on the academy’s governance, academic programs, graduate service obligations, admission requirements, permanent location and implementation strategy.
Following presidential approval and any necessary legislation, NASA will be responsible for implementing the commission’s recommendations.
“Space is a critical domain for American national security, economic growth, scientific discovery, and technological innovation,” Trump said in the order.
