A dual US-Iranian citizen has been arrested on federal charges accusing him of illegally supplying computer technology to Iranian companies and government entities, including technology allegedly linked to Iran's military and nuclear programmes.

Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement posted on X that Jamshid Ghomi, 63, a resident of Orange County, California, was taken into custody on June 4 following a federal criminal complaint alleging violations of US sanctions against Iran.

According to Blanche, Ghomi is accused of selling computer technology to Iranian organisations despite restrictions imposed under US sanctions. Prosecutors allege that some of the technology supported Iran's military and nuclear activities.

Blanche said the Justice Department had also begun proceedings to seize Ghomi's California mansion, valued at approximately $35 million, alleging that the property was purchased using proceeds from the illegal scheme.

“The allegations assert that the defendant violated US sanctions against Iran, aided one of our nation's enemies, supported Iran's nuclear programme, and got rich doing it,” Blanche said in a statement.
