At least 14 Nigerien soldiers were killed in a militant attack in the Lake Chad region in southeastern Niger.
Axar.az informs, citing ActuNiger, that militants attacked army positions in the Diffa region, but the assault was repelled. However, government forces pursuing the retreating attackers were later ambushed.
Several militants were killed in the ensuing clash, although the exact number is still being determined.
According to the report, the attack was carried out by members of the Boko Haram militant group, which operates in the Lake Chad region.
