Georgia has detained 59 illegal migrants from 13 countries, including citizens of Azerbaijan.
Axar.az informs, citing Repоrt, that according to Georgia’s Interior Ministry, the detainees also included citizens of Kenya, Turkiye, Russia, India, Egypt, Ghana, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Sudan, Cameroon and China.
As part of the operation, officers from the Migration Department of Georgia’s Interior Ministry inspected a number of locations and facilities to identify foreign nationals staying in the country without legal grounds.
It was established that the detainees were in Georgia in violation of the country’s Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.
The detainees have been placed in a temporary detention center operated by the Migration Department. Relevant procedures are currently underway to deport them from the country.
“Since the legislative amendments came into force, officers of the Migration Department have conducted 160 special migration control operations, during which a total of 18,000 foreign nationals were checked. As a result, 1,000 illegal migrants identified during these operations have already been deported from Georgia,” the statement said.
