The Houthi rebels of Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement have launched a drone strike targeting the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea.
The operation was confirmed by the movement’s military spokesman, Yahya Saree, who stated that it was in direct response to what he called the “continued daily US aggression” against Yemen, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Saree elaborated in a broadcast on the Al Masirah TV channel, stating, “Aerial and naval forces conducted a joint operation against enemy military ships, led by the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman. They were attacked in the northern part of the Red Sea with several unmanned aerial vehicles.”
The Houthi official also issued a stern warning, declaring the rebels' readiness to “reciprocate US escalation” and emphasizing that military operations in the Red and Arabian seas would persist until the United States halted its support for Israeli military actions in Gaza and lifted the blockade.
This incident comes amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, where the Houthis have previously vowed to strike Israeli territory and block vessels linked to Israel from transiting the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The Houthis have reportedly attacked numerous civilian vessels in the region, escalating fears of wider maritime instability.
The United States, under the direct orders of President Donald Trump, has been involved in military operations against Houthi targets in Yemen, aiming to safeguard American interests and maintain freedom of navigation in the strategically critical region. The US Central Command confirmed the latest strikes in mid-March, marking a continued escalation of military confrontations between the US and the Houthi-controlled factions in Yemen, which hold significant territory in the country’s north.
