Vincent Kompany is close to becoming the new head coach of Bayern Munich, APA reports citing The Athletic.
The Athletic reported on Wednesday that the 38-year-old has been identified as a leading contender to succeed Thomas Tuchel.
Talks are advanced between Bayern and Burnley, and the Belgian is now expected to finalise his move to the Allianz Arena in the coming days.
Kompany, whose current Burnley contract runs until 2028, emerged as a target for Bayern after the club’s unsuccessful attempts to appoint Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, and Oliver Glasner in recent months.
He secured Premier League promotion during his first full season in charge at Turf Moor, topping the Championship table with 101 points, but he was unable to prevent the Lancashire club suffering relegation back to the second tier of English football this season.
Kompany has never managed in German football but he has experience of the Bundesliga as a player, having made 51 appearances for Hamburg before joining Manchester City in 2009.
