Azerbaijan has participated in the 27th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) held in Cascais, Portugal.
National Olympic Committee (NOC) Secretary General Azar Aliyev and Director of International Relations Department Anar Baghirov represented Azerbaijan at the two-day assembly, Caliber.Az reports.
The assembly featured speeches from International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, ANOC President Robin Mitchell, and various official representatives from the IOC and ANOC. Participants reviewed reports from the ANOC, World Anti-Doping Agency, International Testing Agency, and the Indonesian Olympic Committee, alongside presentations from Deloitte and the City Center for Digital Governance.
Key topics discussed included the upcoming Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and the 34th Summer Olympics, set to take place in Los Angeles in 2028. The assembly also heard updates from the Association of Olympic Committees, the International Association of World Games, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport, as well as the Organizing Committee for the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, Italy, in 2026 and the 4th Youth Olympic Games planned for Dakar, Senegal.
Apart from these reports, the assembly addressed innovations in the IOC Board, strategies for optimizing relations with National Olympic Committees (NOCs), the new ANOC strategic plan, and decisions made at the 27th General Assembly, with discussions on the future direction of the 27th General Assembly also taking place. Topics regarding the development of the Olympic program, prospects for NOCs, and effective strategies for safe sports were also prominent on the agenda.
