Israel deepens operations in southern Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the capture of Beaufort Castle marks a “dramatic shift” in Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Axar.az reports, citing Ynet, Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces had crossed the Litani River, seized strategic terrain, and are expanding control in areas previously held by Hezbollah.

“Tonight, our heroic soldiers captured the Beaufort post. They proudly raised the flag of the State of Israel and the flag of the Golani Brigade,” he said.

He added that the operation reflects a broader effort to deepen Israeli control over key positions in southern Lebanon.

“I remind you that 44 years ago, this place was a symbol of a heroic battle by our soldiers, but also a symbol of deep division among us. Today we returned to Beaufort differently. We returned united, determined and stronger than ever,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu further stated that Israeli forces had already established control beyond the border and were continuing operations across multiple fronts.

“Our forces crossed the Litani, seized commanding areas and captured the Beaufort ridge. Now my directive is to deepen and expand our hold in places that were under Hezbollah’s control. The capture of Beaufort is a dramatic stage and a dramatic change in the policy we are leading,” he said.

He added that Israel would continue military operations in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, stressing that the campaign would take time but would be completed.

“We are initiating. We are operating on all fronts. It will take more time, but we will return security to the residents of the north. It will take time, but we will complete the mission,” he said.
