BCAW2026 highlights role of Sustainable Energy Centers in promoting climate resilience, innovation and energy transitions

The Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW2026) featured a roundtable discussion titled “Regional Dialogue on the Role of Sustainable Energy Centers in Promoting Climate Resilience, Innovation and Energy Transitions”.

The roundtable focused on developing sustainable energy systems, expanding renewable energy sources, enhancing energy efficiency, applying innovative technologies, and fostering regional cooperation.

In his remarks, Mukhtar Babayev, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues and President of COP29, underscored the importance of enhancing renewable energy, increasing energy efficiency, modernizing energy grids, and applying new technologies to accelerate the global energy transition.

According to him, to achieve these goals, the parties need to attract significant investments.

In turn, Nigar Arpadarai, Azerbaijani MP, Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 described the energy transition as not only a matter of technological transformation, but also of economic and social development.

She noted that the collaborative efforts of private sector, government agencies, and international partners are crucial for scaling up sustainable energy projects.

Other keynote speakers included Marinette Gaillon, Project Administrator at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); and Saken Kalkamanov, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan’s International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center.
