The European Union has committed a total of €23 million to support demining operations in Azerbaijan, according to a statement from the EU’s External Action Service.
This figure includes a fresh €10 million allocation for 2024–2025, which is earmarked for the International Centre of Excellence and Training for Demining, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The EU said it remains the largest international donor supporting demining activities in the country.
Brussels underlined that the funding aims to facilitate safe access to natural resources and enable the secure and dignified return of displaced populations to their native regions.
“In May 2024, the EU, together with its member states, launched the Team Europe Initiative,” the statement read. “The initiative focuses on capacity-building, training, risk-awareness, information dissemination, and assistance for victims. This support is also being delivered within that framework.”
The EU's engagement is part of a broader strategy to promote stability and post-conflict recovery in the region.
