New Jersey wildfire swells to more than 8,000 acres

A wildfire in Ocean County, New Jersey, has expanded to 8,500 acres, prompting evacuations of around 3,000 people and forcing traffic diversions on the Garden State Parkway.

Axar.az, citing NBC, reports that the fire in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area was only 10% contained by Tuesday night.

No injuries or deaths have been reported, but 1,320 structures are threatened, and damage assessments are ongoing.

The cause is still under investigation. Dry and drought conditions have contributed to the rapid spread, with the area under a “high” fire risk, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
