Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, has begun an official visit to Slovakia at the invitation of Lieutenant General Daniel Zmeko, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic.

The visit commenced with an official welcoming ceremony organised in honour of the Azerbaijani delegation, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry told Caliber.Az.

On the first day, Colonel General Valiyev held a meeting with his Slovak counterpart, Lieutenant General Zmeko, during which the two military leaders discussed prospects for expanding bilateral military cooperation.

The talks included a broad exchange of views on issues of mutual interest, underlining the potential for deepening strategic defence ties between Baku and Bratislava.

Later, Colonel General Valiyev met with Mr. Martin Vojtašovič, the 2nd State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Slovakia. Their discussions focused on cooperation across several domains, including military-technical collaboration, military education, and broader defence-related engagement between the two countries.

The visit marks a continuation of Azerbaijan’s efforts to strengthen its international defence partnerships and foster regional and European security cooperation.
