Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia remains open to negotiations with Ukraine in Turkiye but currently sees no conditions for holding them.
Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Peskov said Moscow had not abandoned dialogue but claimed Kyiv was not demonstrating readiness to address issues related to resolving the conflict.
“We remain open to such negotiations. Unfortunately, we cannot admit the existence of prerequisites. They just don't exist yet,” Peskov told reporters.
Peskov made the remarks in response to a question about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would discuss with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan the possibility of resuming the work of the Russian and Ukrainian negotiating teams in Istanbul.
Putin and Erdogan are expected to meet in Bishkek on September 1 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
