Iran’s ambassador reveals supreme leader’s reassurance to Putin over nuclear talks

Iran's Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, has announced that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei sent a written message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, reassuring him that ongoing US-Iran nuclear talks would not weaken the strong relationship between Iran and Russia.

Jalali confirmed that the letter was delivered by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during his official visit to Moscow, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.

The message aimed to address any concerns or mutual suspicions, particularly as both Iran and Russia navigate diplomatic discussions with Western nations.

In his remarks, Jalali emphasised that Khamenei’s message reaffirmed Iran's commitment to maintaining strong relations with its "friendly" countries, irrespective of the ongoing nuclear negotiations or broader dialogues with the West.

The ambassador also clarified that the Iran-Russia relationship remains "balanced," directly addressing critics who have questioned Tehran’s reliance on Moscow. Jalali further stated that President Putin expressed satisfaction with Khamenei’s message and reiterated Russia’s continued support for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.

In a separate development, the United States and Iran concluded a second round of talks in Rome on Saturday, focusing on Iran's nuclear program. The discussions, which lasted for four hours, were mediated by Oman and took place at the Omani ambassador’s residence, with both sides meeting in separate rooms.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the meeting as "good" and noted that significant progress was made. "This time we managed to reach a better understanding on a series of principles and goals," Araghchi said.
