Azerbaijani MP hosts meeting to foster cultural ties with Uzbekistan

Azerbaijani MP and Deputy Chairperson of the Culture Committee, Gunay Efendiyeva, has hosted a pivotal meeting with a distinguished Uzbek delegation, fostering a meaningful exchange of ideas aimed at strengthening the historical, cultural, and spiritual ties between the two nations.

The Uzbek delegation included influential figures from Uzbekistan’s cultural and artistic sectors, such as celebrated folk artists, writers, and directors of national theaters and museums, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

Efendiyeva highlighted the growing strategic partnership and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, especially in the cultural realm. She noted that the strong, cooperative relationship between the leaders of both nations — Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev — has provided a firm foundation for further mutual collaboration.

A key focus of the discussion was the humanitarian initiatives taking place in the liberated regions of Karabakh, with significant contributions from the Uzbek government. Notable projects include the establishment of the Mirza Ulughbek Secondary School in Fuzuli and a joint Azerbaijani-Uzbek sewing factory in Khankendi. These initiatives were praised as shining examples of brotherly support and spiritual solidarity between the two nations.

This meeting also coincided with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. In light of this milestone, the Uzbek delegation expressed deep appreciation for the Azerbaijani production of “Days Gone By”, a work by the famous Uzbek author Abdulla Qodiriy. The production, made possible through the collaboration of the Azerbaijani parliament’s Culture Committee, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan, and the Baku Municipal Theatre, was celebrated as a notable achievement in cultural exchange.

The discussions underscored the importance of projects designed to further cultural integration between the two countries. Key initiatives included the mutual exchange of theatrical productions, films, and television series. The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue fostering cultural and creative exchanges between the two countries. The Uzbek delegation was in Baku to attend the premiere of the play based on Abdulla Qodiriy’s “Days Gone By”, supported by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan.
