A series of events promoting Azerbaijan’s tourism sector is being held in China.
The events have been organised by the Azerbaijan Tourism Board in the cities of Xi’an, Shanghai and Beijing, with the participation of six representatives from the country’s tourism industry, including Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), Caliber.Az reports, citing the agency.
The Azerbaijan Tourism Board is also participating with a national stand at the international tourism exhibition ITB China 2026, taking place in Shanghai from May 26 to 28, alongside AZAL and 10 local tourism industry representatives.
During the exhibition, one of the world’s leading online travel platforms, Trip.com, awarded Azerbaijan the title of “Must-Visit Destination 2026”. The award was presented to the Chairman of the State Tourism Agency, Fuad Naghiyev.
As part of the visit, the Azerbaijan Tourism Board also signed a memorandum of understanding with Tongcheng Travel, one of China’s leading online travel and booking platforms.
The document envisages strengthening the promotion of Azerbaijan in the Chinese market and positioning the country as an attractive year-round destination for Chinese tourists.
The report noted that the mutual visa-free regime between Azerbaijan and China, as well as direct flights operated by AZAL and China Southern Airlines from Baku to Beijing and Urumqi, are creating favourable conditions for the development of tourism ties between the two countries.
In January–April 2026, the number of visitors arriving in Azerbaijan from China reached 14,303, marking a 9.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
