Renowned Iranian heavyweight wrestler Amir Reza Masoumi is set to sign a contract with the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation in the coming days and will compete as part of the national team.
Axar.az informs according to Iranian media, reports indicate that Masoumi will be able to compete for Azerbaijan starting in 2027.
However, his and the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation’s main goal is to participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
According to some reports, the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation will pay the Iranian wrestler a monthly salary of $22,000.
Earlier, the former head coach of Iran’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team, Mohammad Banna, also agreed to lead Azerbaijan’s national team after negotiations with the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
