One dead, 11 injured in suspected arson at Seoul apartment building

A fire broke out early on April 21 at a 21-story apartment building in Bongcheon-dong, Seoul, killing one person and injuring 11 others, in what police suspect to be a case of arson.

According to local authorities, the blaze erupted at approximately 8:17 a.m., prompting a swift response from emergency services. Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control, but not before significant damage and casualties were reported, Caliber.Az reports, citing South Korean media.

Two of the injured individuals were rushed to hospital after falling from the building in an apparent attempt to escape the fire. The other nine sustained minor injuries, including smoke inhalation and respiratory issues.

Police officials say they suspect the fire was deliberately set and are currently pursuing a male suspect believed to be connected to the incident. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities combing through surveillance footage and gathering witness accounts.

Further details, including the identity of the deceased and the motive behind the suspected arson, have yet to be disclosed.
