Earthquake in Tajikistan partially destroys 17 homes and a school

As a result of the April 13 morning earthquake in Tajikistan, 17 residential buildings located at the epicenter of the tremors were partially destroyed, according to a report by the Crisis Management Center of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic.

"According to preliminary data, 17 residential buildings and one school were partially destroyed at the epicenter of the earthquake in eastern Tajikistan," the statement said, Caliber.Az reports.

According to the Committee, the epicenter of the tremors was located 160 km northeast of Dushanbe, in the Rasht district. Tajik seismologists recorded a magnitude of 5 at the epicenter and 4 in Dushanbe.

A committee of the Emergency Situations agency has been dispatched to the affected area to assess the damage.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4, struck Tajikistan on April 13, at 04:24 UTC (07:24 MSK). The epicenter was located more than 170 kilometers southeast of Khujand city, home to over 198,000 people. The quake originated at a depth of 16 kilometers.
