Deputy Foreign Ministers of Türkiye and Russia will hold consultations on the Middle East in Istanbul on April 25, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“On April 25, 2025, consultations on the Middle East will take place between Türkiye and the Russian Federation in Istanbul at the level of deputy foreign ministers. Türkiye will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz, while the Russian side will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov,” the statement said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The Ministry said that the consultations are expected to include a comprehensive exchange of views on regional issues, particularly regarding Syria and Palestine.
“The Russian Federation is a country with which Türkiye attaches great importance to holding consultations in the context of developments in the Middle East,” the statement added.
Türkiye and Russia maintain a complex but strategic partnership in the Middle East, often coordinating diplomatically despite backing opposing sides in several regional conflicts. In Syria, Russia supports the Assad government, while Türkiye has backed opposition groups and maintains a military presence in the north. Nonetheless, the two countries have cooperated through the Astana peace process alongside Iran, aiming to de-escalate tensions and negotiate political solutions.
In the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, both Ankara and Moscow have voiced criticism of Israeli military actions in Gaza, particularly during recent escalations. Türkiye has taken a strong pro-Palestinian stance, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan calling for international accountability for Israel, while Russia has positioned itself as a mediator open to dialogue with all parties, including Hamas and Fatah.
